The Contracting Bill and its Implications:
More Unemployment

The contracting bill contains elements that would have extremely negative effects on employment and the economy. Incorporating a broad definition of contracting out into the Employment Code would create a confusion that does not exist today in the real world.

Research Areas

National and International Economics: Even though the market social economy is becoming increasingly prevalent around the world, there are still vast sectors that do not completely accept it or that only partially follow its principles, without taking on or fully understanding the responsibilities and efforts this implies. All of the actions, studies and research within this program are intended to promote development based on a free market economy, which we believe to be the only realistic path to development and social justice. Libertad y Desarrollo's Center of International Economics studies economic and financial events in the world economy, particularly within Latin America.
Social Affairs Program: Eradication of extreme poverty through efficient social policies is fundamental to the inclusion of all citizens in a nation's development. These social policies include a combination of emergency assistance and resources to be invested in human capital. One of the main objectives of this program is to contribute, through the analysis of public policies, to definitive solutions to the problems associated with poverty. Eliminating these problems is an essential condition for a free society, as are studies of issues related to education, health, justice, housing and family.
Political & Institutional Program: Economical and social programs cannot develop firmly if they lack an adequate political institutional infrastructure. This program carries out studies and analyses of political and cultural issues while promoting a free social order and Christian/Western values. Research topics include governance, charters, democratic reform, land use and aboriginal policy.
Legislative Program: This program allows Libertad y Desarrollo to funnel legislative work and analysis of bills directly to legislators, which results in an enrichment of the bills themselves and a better orientation toward the principles of freedom.
Environmental Program: This program is dedicated to the analysis and promotion of environmental public policies from the point of view of a free society. In order to achieve this free society, the program promotes the use of economic incentives and market-based solutions. These solutions contribute to the design of channels allowing for environmental protection in accordance with high economic development. The program gives recommendations to congressmen, political parties and public and private organizations.
Communications Program: This program facilitates the distribution of the studies, analyses and proposals prepared by Libertad y Desarrollo researchers. In addition, the program organizes events, meetings and seminars.
